On April 22 (Earth Day), the Nature Conservancy and the University of California Press will release the "Atlas of Global Conservation," which will contain 80 maps that visually detail the condition of ecosystems, plants, and animals around the globe, reports Juliet Eilperin. Among the maps are those that show where water demand outstrips supply and where intact forests now cover the land (and where they once did). "The atlas is telling us what's where, what state it's in, what people are doing to it now—the big threats, and what we can do to turn it around," says Mark Spalding, a senior marine scientist for the Nature Conservancy.
